ISO 26000 DIS on Social Responsibility
In September 2010 the long awaited final version of the ISO 26000 Guidance on Social Responsibility Standard will be published.
Since 2005, ISO, the International Organization for Standardization, has been working on developing a Guidance for Social Responsibility. The latest version of the Guidance is published as a "Committee Draft", which will pass two more international evaluation and feedback rounds before it will be published as a final international standard. The latest version of the Guidance, published in September 2009 as Draft International Standard (DIS), can be downloaded here.
The Guidance Standard will be voluntary to use and it will not include requirements. This means, ISO 26000 will not be an ISO Management System Standard (like the ISO 9000 series or ISO 14001) and will therefore not be certifiable.
ISO 26000 is developed to provide organizations with guidance on incorporating social responsibility into their operations.
As CSR Consulting Turkey, we are anxiously waiting for the publication of the ISO 26000 Guidelines. We believe that the business community will greatly benefit from these Guidelines.
