Unilever Turkey Sustainable Development Report, 2009
We helped Unilever Turkey to develop a sustainable development (SD) report that is in line with the UN Global Compact Principles. Unilver Turkey has been publishing SD reports for some years now. As for previous years, the 2008 report, published at the end of 2009, is based on the corporate SD report, but it contains more information and data that is relevant for operations in Turkey. The report is also structured according to the UNGC Principles. The Turkish version of the SD report 2008 can be downloaded from Unilever Turkey's website.
GRI Guidelines in Turkish, 2009
We translated the GRI Sustainability Guidelines into Turkish. A launching event was organised on 19 October 2009 in Istanbul where more than 100 participants were present. The event was organised in cooperation with a number of organisations including GRI, UNDP Turkey, IFC and Bogazici University and under the main sponsorship of Turkcell. The translated documents can be found on GRI's website.
Responsible Textile Sourcing, NRDC, China, 2009.
We assisted NRDC (Natural Resources Defence Council, USA) with the implementation of its Responsible Sourcing Initiative, in cooperation with BECO-ISB. The project entailed identifying cleaner production measures that can be applied at the Chinese textile exporting companies. The focus was on identifying measures to improve environmental performance, which have short to mid-term return on investment. NRDC will continue with the RSI in India.
LCA Guide for Textile Supply Chain, UNEP/Wuppertal CSCP, 2009
We helped UNEP-Wuppertal Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production develop a simplified Life Cycle Assessment Guide for the textile supply chain. The guide focused on the most important environmental and social aspects of a 100% cotton t-shirt. The aim of the Guide is to make companies in the textile chain be aware of these aspects and start taking action.
Sustainability Initiatives in the Retail Sector, UNEP/Wuppertal CSCP, 2009
We mapped and analysed existing sustainability initiatives in the retail sector for the UNEP-Wuppertal Centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production. The project entailed identifying all the on-going sustainability initiatives along the supply chain of the retail sector (textile, food & drink & ICT) worldwide and making a gap analysis to identify the information needs between the retailers and the producers.
